CPF Executive Board Unanimously Approves Ambitious 2009-2010 Legislative Agenda
In 2008, California Professional Firefighters had a banner legislative year with the overwhelming support from the Governor and Legislature on our sponsored bills, including our MRSA presumption bill.
While the 2007-2008 Legislative Session was a huge success, CPF is now turning with new urgency to the 2009-2010 Legislative Session. To this end, the CPF Executive Board unanimously approved an ambitious legislative agenda this past week for the upcoming session. The agenda will be transformed into an aggressive package of bills on behalf of CPF members for state lawmakers to consider when they convene in Sacramento after the New Year.
Ultimately, our 2009-2010 bill package builds on resolutions adopted by delegates to previous CPF biennial conventions, including:
- Strengthening the state's firefighter cancer presumption statute;
- Pursuing efforts to maintain a firefighter's right to pre-designate their treating physician for workers' compensation purposes;
- Enhancing a local agency's ability to be fully reimbursed for costs incurred while mitigating emergencies and disasters; and
- Keeping faith with the recommendations put forth by the Governor's Blue Ribbon Fire Commission.
