2008 California Fire Fighters Memorial Day Resolution Enacted

Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas  (D - Los Angeles)

Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas (D - Los Angeles), has introduced CPF-sponsored resolution, SCR 130 (Chapter 123, Statutes of 2008), which designates Saturday, October 18th, as the 2008 California Fire Fighters Memorial Day, giving Californians the opportunity to honor the sacrifice of those firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty this year and in years past.

This resolution won unanimous support in the Senate and Assembly and because SCR 130 is a concurrent resolution, it does not need the Governor's signature to take effect.  A resolution establishing a Fire Fighters Memorial Day has been adopted by the Legislature every year since the California Fire Fighters Memorial was unveiled in 2002.

The Fire Fighters Memorial includes the names of over 1000 brave men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty, protecting the citizens of this state. Establishing a day where their loved ones, as well as the rest of the State can remember their sacrifice and honor their memory is of the upmost importance.

The Memorial stands in the east side of Capitol Park, a place where family members, firefighters and others from around the state will gather on Saturday, October 18th to pay a tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty this year and years past.
