FFs Bill of Rights -- Details
CPF Following Through ... The Firefighters Bill of Rights
The enactment of the landmark Firefighters Procedural Bill of Rights gives California firefighters the fairest, most extensive privacy protection enjoyed by any public employee in the state.
Its approval in 2007 caps a 20 year legislative effort by California Professional Firefighters and ranks as one of the cornerstone accomplishments of CPF history.
As grueling as the legislative struggle to win the Firefighter Bill of Rights has been, getting the bill enacted is only the beginning. For this tool to be successful, it is essential that you know your rights and your leadership understand the law’s extent and limitations.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
To help you understand the law, CPF has mailed all 30,000 members a special edition of its newspaper, The California Professional Firefighter. It outlines the rights won in this important law.
If you haven’t seen the newspaper yet, you can download a PDF copy at www.cpf.org. A grid of the law’s key provisions is on page 4.
LOCAL LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS SCHEDULED
To help your local leadership implement this law, CPF has also scheduled two special workshops on the Firefighters Bill of Rights. The workshops will be held in January in conjunction with CPF District meetings in Northern and Southern California.
More information is being sent to your local leadership on these workshops. Please contact them for the latest on the new law, or go to our web site – www.cpf.org.
