CPF 1st District VP Named to CA Seismic Safety Commission

CPF California's first responders will have a powerful new voice in helping to shape our state's earthquake safety standards with the appointment of Riverside Fire Captain Tim Strack to the California Seismic Safety Commission.

Strack, a 24-year fire service veteran and CPF's 1st District Vice President, was appointed to the post this week by Governor Jerry Brown, and will serve a term of four years.

"Tim's wealth of experience as a front line firefighter make him an ideal choice to help guide our state's seismic policy," said CPF President Lou Paulson. "Tim will be a strong, knowledgeable voice for emergency response on the Commission, and we commend the governor for appointing him to this post."

The Commission is responsible for investigating earthquakes, evaluating the damage and response to significant incidents, and making recommendations to the governor and Legislature on how to reduce risks posed by earthquakes.

"Because firefighters and paramedics are on the front lines when an earthquake hits, it is critical that we have a voice in shaping earthquake safety policy," said Strack. "I'm honored to have been appointed and will work hard to be an advocate for effective earthquake response and for policies that help reduce the risk quakes pose to lives and property."

Strack began his fire service career in 1987, and has been a Riverside firefighter since 1995. He currently serves as the president of Riverside Firefighters Association Local 1067. Tim was elected CPF 1st District Vice President in 2010.
