CPF Calls For Budget Resolution
California Professional Firefighters joined local public safety agencies and Gov. Schwarzenegger Tuesday morning in a call for a state budget resolution.
CPF President Lou Paulson joined health care workers, school and other public safety officials, as the governor hosted a press conference in front of Marshall Medical Center in Placerville. Officials highlighted how the budget impasse is impacting their work and the communities they serve. Schwarzenegger hammered the legislature for the state budget stalemate.
“We need a budget, not continuing appropriations,” said President Paulson. “The uncertainty of the impasse is crippling the local agencies that Californians depend on. Without a budget, the implications for local fire protection are potentially disastrous.”
"There are severe consequences to education and health care and hospitals and law enforcement and firefighting and all of those things," said Schwarzenegger.
The budget is currently stalled in the Legislature in a dispute over how to close a $15 billion budget shortfall. Lawmakers and the governor are currently 65 days beyond the constitutional deadline for enacting a state budget into law.
