LODD: 13-Year LA Co. FF Dies of Job-Related Cancer
Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014 is deeply saddened to announce the death of one of its long time members in the line of duty.
Engineer William "Richard" Carr, Jr., who served more than a decade with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, died on September 1, 2009 at age 49 after a long battle with brain cancer.
Brother Carr was hired by the Los Angeles County Fire Department in 1996 at the age of 36 after spending the beginning of his career working with his father as an automobile mechanic. Most of his career was spent at station 57b, with a stint at station 95 before his condition left him partially paralyzed in 2008.
Brother Carr is remembered by his colleagues as a hardworking family man, dedicated to his profession. He is survived by his two daughters, Krista and Klarissa Carr, and his mother, Louami Carr. He is also survived by three sisters.
