Pension Truth Squads Speak Out for Retirement Security
California's public workers and retirees are hitting the road to stand up for the secure retirement they have earned.
Speaking at separate events in San Diego and Riverside, CPF members joined teachers, police officers, bus drivers and other public workers to fight back against Wisconsin-style attacks on their pensions and bargaining rights.
In San Diego on Monday, Escondido Firefighters president Mike Diaz said that employees are stepping up to help local governments deal with ongoing budget issues, without gutting long-term retirement security.
In Riverside on Tuesday, Riverside City Firefighters member Tyler Stanford -- who returned to duty after coming back from a potentially debilitating injury -- emphasized that retirement security is not a gift, but is earned by years of commitment to service.
At both events, retirees emphasized the modest nature of their retirements, and said the attack on retirement security attempts to pin Wall Street's crimes on middle class families.
