Remembering 9/11

Every year on 9/11 we pause to remember the thousands of lives lost on that tragic day, including the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice to save lives. Twenty years after the horrific terror attacks, retired Fire Chief and Executive Director of the California Fire Foundation, Rick Martinez, reflects on the tragedy.

Chief Martinez responded to 9/11 just 27 hours after the first plane struck the World Trade Center. As the Urban Search & Rescue lead, he oversaw US&R teams from around the country looking for survivors and ultimately recovering victims.
