State Controller Offers Foreclosure Help for Public Employees

The foreclosure crisis has hit California harder than most other states, and public employees are far from immune to its effects. The state's top fiscal officer is weighing in with some help for families in crisis.

State Controller John Chiang, in partnership with state employee unions, is hosting a free Foreclosure Counseling event in Sacramento this June, part of a program that could expand statewide. The event will take place on June 4th at the State Controller's Office, 3301 "C" Street, Suite 750, in Sacramento.

The session is being held in NID-Housing Counseling Agency, a nationwide non-profit housing counseling services. Private counselors will work one-on-one with homeowners to discuss their options with their lenders. Mortgage lenders will also be in attendance to assist homeowners. The counseling event is part of the federal Making Home Affordable program, designed to keep homeowners in their homes and possibly reducing their monthly mortgage payments and avoiding foreclosure.

This program is available to borrowers who are current or delinquent with their mortgage payments. All of the services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL.
