Senior Accountant


California Professional Firefighters is a statewide not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives and working conditions of career firefighters.  We are currently seeking a senior accountant to join the Accounting Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General ledger account review, reconciliation and analysis; 
  • Month-end review, analysis and work paper preparation;
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements;
  • Work with independent auditor on preparation of audited financial statements;
  • Preparation of work papers and draft schedules for annual IRS Forms 990 and 990-T;
  • Preparation of annual labor organization reports to DOL; and
  • Preparation of work papers and review of political activity reports.  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting;
  • Ten years accounting experience of increasing responsibility, preferably in the not-for-profit industry;
  • Expertise in exempt organization tax reporting matters;
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical and communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to design report formats, extract data and develop financial reports;
  • Ability to manage deadlines and mulitple assignments; and
  • Proficient in Excel; knowledge of Crystal Reports and FRx a plus.
